Nabin is a strict classical musician who believes only Hindustani music is pure. Shruti fears his anger. Her friends encourage her to be brave and “bite the bullet” by telling him honestly. Shruti promises she will talk to her father at dinner.
Act II
At dinner, Shruti tries to tell her father about the concert. Nabin listens but firmly says “No.” He believes too many performances spoil the art and that fusion music is disrespectful to tradition. He mocks the idea of fusion practice and leaves angrily.
Shruti’s mother, Leela, also scolds her for hiding the truth. Shruti feels guilty and promises not to hide things again, though she is sad that her group’s hard work may go to waste.
