About NTSE

NTSE Exam is a national-level scholarship program organized by NCERT to identify the talented students across India. The NTSE exam has two stages, Stage 1 (state level) and Stage 2 (national level), and the test is based on the Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Ability Test (SAT). The successful candidate can receive the scholarships for the NCERT.

The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) was established by the Government of India in the year 1961 with a view to bringing about qualitative improvement in school education in the country. In the year 2014-15 the rates of scholarships were increased from Rs. 500 to the following rates for various stages of education.

  • Scholarship of Rs. 1250/- per months for class XI and XII.
  • Scholarship of Rs. 2000/- per month for UG and PG.
  • Scholarship for students pursuing Ph.D in accordance with UGC norms.

The scholarships provide financial aid up to the Ph.D. level. NTSE scholars are highly respected and valued in academics. It also helps in taking admission, competitive exams, and career growth.

NTSE Eligibility Criteria

The National Talent Search Examination is open for students of Indian nationality whether they study in India or abroad at Class X level.

NTSE Eligibility Criteria (Stage 1)>> The government or private school students who score more than 60% in class IX can apply for the NTSE examination.
>> The Open Distance Learning (ODL) program students can also apply for the examination.
>> The student age should be less than 18 years as of July 1.
NTSE Eligibility Criteria (Stage 2)The students who clear the NTSE Stage I exam are only eligible for the NTSE Stage II examination.

NTSE Syllabus

NTSE does not have any prescribed syllabus like board examinations. Instead, the questions are based on the level of Class 9 and Class 10. It means that if you learn class 9 and 10 NCERT textbooks carefully, then you will cover the NTSE syllabus. NTSE has two main tests:

Mental Ability Test (MAT)Focuses on reasoning, problem‑solving, and logical thinking. Topics include analogies, series, puzzles, coding‑decoding, classification, figure problems, etc.
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)Tests knowledge of subjects taught in school. Subjects: Science (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), Mathematics, Social Science (History, Geography, Civics, Economics), and English.
