The Central Board of Secondary Education introduced an artificial intelligence curriculum for Class 11 students from the session 2020-21. This curriculum is designed by the 1M1B (1 Million for 1 Billion) and supported by IBM and aligned with NSQF. In the AI Class 11 curriculum, the topics are used Unit 1: Introduction – AI for Everyone, Unit 2: Unlocking your Future in AI, Unit 3: Python Programming, Unit 4: Introduction to Capstone Project, Unit 5: Data Literacy – Data Collection to Data Analysis, Unit 6: Machine Learning Algorithms, Unit 7: Leveraging Linguistics and Computer Science, Unit 8: AI Ethics and Values – the below topic.

The curriculum begins with an introduction to artificial intelligence where the students will be able to learn what AI is, the evaluation of AI, types of AI, and domains of AI. What is data science? How is the data important? What are the types of data? What are cognitive computing (perception, learning, reasoning), AI terminologies, etc.?

In Unit 2 students are going to learn about how the student will get an opportunity in different job sections where AI is used. Students will also learn what the different job roles are and the essential skills and tools for prospective AI careers. What are the different professional toolkits available? What are the different opportunities in AI across various industries, etc.?

In Unit 3, students are going to learn about how Python is helpful in the field of AI and some basic concepts of Python, such as Python editors, keywords, identifiers, literals, operators, punctuators, data types, how the values can be accepted from the users, control flow statements in Python, understanding CSV files and uses, an introduction to libraries, etc.

In Unit 4 students are going to learn about the capstone project. A capstone project is a project where students must research a topic, deeply understand the subject matter and integrate all their knowledge gathered about a particular subject to develop a solution to a problem. In this chapter students will learn how questions are important in AI capstone projects, critical and creative thinking, design thinking frameworks, empathy maps, ideation, etc.

In Unit 5, students are going to learn about data literacy, data collection, how to explore data using nominal level, ordinal level, interval level and ratio scale level, statistical analysis of data, variance and standard deviation, etc. In Unit 6 students are going to learn about machine learning, types of machine learning, how classification works, types of classification, why the KNN algorithm is needed, how clustering works, types of clustering, what k-means clustering is, etc.

In Unit 7 students are going to learn about leveraging linguistics and computer science. In this topic students will understand how the human language has complexity, about natural language processing, emotion detection and sentiment analysis, classification problems, chatbots, types of chatbots, how the NLP converts speech to text and how to analyse the intent of text, applications of NLP, etc. In Unit 8 students are going to learn about AI ethics and its values, how ethics is important in AI, the five pillars of AI ethics, Bias, bias awareness, sources of bias, examples of AI bias in real life, mitigating bias in AI systems, etc.
